Abortion: Pro-choice. More energy should be spent on reducing unwanted pregnancies than arguing over when life begins. Sex education is the way to reduce abortions.

Gun control: The gun culture in this country is lost on me. Why do you feel the need for a loaded gun in your house/person at all times? If you like guns, fine. Go to a gun club. Otherwise I'm all for more gun control.

Stem cell research: A good thing.

Religion/God: I'd argue for religion to be taught in schools, as well as politics. Let's get some understanding and discussion going at an early age. Beyond that, I think we should recognise that the US may be a Christian country by majority, but it is not a theocracy. Laws (such as abortion) should not be decided due to the Bible. Unless you want the entire country to shut down every Sunday - not football, no TV, no driving, etc...

Immigration: Live with the way the world is, not the way we'd like it to be. We have maybe 13 million illegal immigrants. I can't imagine a cost-effective, fair system that will deport them all. So let's start afresh. Amnesty. Guest worker program. Go after employees who hire illegal immigrants after that. Fence? Nah. But we can increase the patrols of the borders. We should be OK with raising taxes to do so, if we honestly feel the problem is serious enough.

Governmental duties: Health care, education, police, public transport & infrastructure, diplomacy, security - oh, loads of stuff. Whether it's at a state level or national, I'm not strictly bothered, to be honest. I think we should recognise that we are interconnected, whether we like it or not. I do not live in a vacuum. The health and welfare of my garbage collector effects me directly. An "I'm alright, Jack" attitude does not actually help me. If taxes go to help my garbage collector maintain his health, keep his house, feed his children, get him to work, etc, we both win.

Hmm, no shockers on any of those, I'm sure.

This place seems rife with political commentary with the typical labels and stereotypes. It would be interesting to see the viewpoints of such out spoken members on various topics to see if the labels fit or if there are people who step outside the typical party line.

-----------------------------

Abortion:

Pro Abortion here. I believe a woman should be able to evaluate her situation and make the decision based on all available data. I don't believe in late term abortion and feel 3 months or less should be enough time to decide.

Gun Control:

If a person has no felony convictions, passes psych and firearms training, is registered, US citizen, and maintains a license I feel they should be allowed to carry a hand gun concealed and own any firearm.

Stem Cell Research:

I strongly support this research and believe the treatments and possible cures and disease fighting treatments could create incredible advances that would help a great deal of people.

Religion/God:

Agnostic here. Believe in a higher power, but don't believe in any one deity or believe religion as an institution of man should dictate how my life should be lived. I believe how you live your life is more important than what religion you prescribe to.

Immigration:

No amnesty for lawbreakers. Deport illegals. Tighten border control. Create labor work visa program.

Governmental duties:

Stop deficit spending and screwing the next generation. Strengthen our own country, help our own citizens, invest in our own infrastructure first. Streamline bureaucracy and get their agencies into the modern age and use IT for control, speed, and efficiency.

I agree with you 100%

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Abortion:

I don't support abortion, but I'm not sure it should be treated as murder in a legal sense. Are we going to sentence women who have abortions and the doctors who perform them with 25 year to life terms? I think the emphasis should be placed on prevention through counseling and providing alternatives. Partial birth abortion, however, should be illegal.

Gun Control:

Self-defense is a basic human right, and that right goes with them even outside their home. A citizen or LPR who has no felony convictions and passes a basic gun safety course should be able to buy a gun. They should be able to get a CCW permit unless the government can demonstrate why in their particular case they should not be granted one. The burden of proof should be on the government, not the other way around. The emphasis should be on crime control, not gun control. For instance, gang members (gangs being criminal organizations) should be disarmed. Far more people have been killed by gang violence than in school shootings, so much that gang murders hardly make the news.

Stem Cell Research:

Yes to adult stem cell research. No to fetal cell research.

Religion/God:

I'm Christian; my beliefs are at the core of who I am. But though my views are rather conservative, I am not in line with the "Christian Right." I do not want the government enforcing Christian morality. When the State and Religion are in bed together, or worse, indistinguishable, bad things result. Otoh, I do not want the government interfering with the free excercise of religion either.

Immigration:

I'm all for legal immigration. The process needs to be much more efficient and streamlined; the focus should be primarily on ensuring that the immigrant has no criminal background and poses no health threat. As for illegal "immigration," we need to seriously enforce our borders and stop pandering to political interest groups. There should be no benefits extended to illegals beyond emergency medical services. Granting automatic citizenship to children born here of illegal alien parents needs to end.

Governmental duties:

Government should be limited to what is in the Constitution; it should interfere in our lives as little as possible. The government's job is to protect our individual rights to be free from harm in body and property both from within the country (criminals) and from without (terrorists, invasion, etc.). It is NOT the government's job to protect me from me, to make me "good," to provide for me, or to force me to do things against my wishes (or do them to me) "for my own good."
