Steve's wife here:

We haven't had a vacation together in, uh, way too long. Years. So we treated ourselves and stayed at Le Square Phillip. Gorgeous place. HUGE rooms. It's a suite hotel, so you get a separate bedroom and living room, plus kitchenette. The room(s) was bigger than my 2-bed apartment. Could have done with GPS to find my way from bedroom to bathroom . . .

Anyway, it was lovely, but we had two minor complaints:

1. We don't know Montreal at all, so when we arrived - in the dark, after a solid 8 hour drive - we parked right opposite the hotel because, well, that was the direction we were driving and it's a quiet side street. The woman at the front desk had the gall to tell us that next time we should park right out front. (We did! Only it was on the other side of the street). And then when we asked about leaving our car there until perhaps after midday, she suggested we might want to park on the street where there was metered parking!

2. Poor planning on our part, but we knew there was a restaurant on site so figured we'd order from there when we arrived. Except it closed at 9:30 pm, which was 3 minutes before I called them. The only food we had with us was two bags of chips (uneaten road food), so that was an interesting dinner.

But the people on duty in the morning were really nice, very helpful and accommodating. They had no problem with our car sitting in their garage until 2pm if we needed it to, and even took our luggage downstairs and put it into the car for us before we left for the interview.

Be warned - it is EXPENSIVE, but if you want to spend the money it's a really nice place to stay.

I was perfectly happy with the La Tour hotel.. I had no problems whatsoever and I liked that it was super close to the Embassy..

yeah it isn't fancy but it isn't a dump either.. although I am used to staying in hotels like that..lol.. haven't stayed in too many 4 or 5 star hotels in my lifetime :P

now the hotel I stayed in the night before my medical in Vancouver was icky :P..

Has anybody stayed at the Hotel Les Suites Labelle? expedia only rates it at 2.5 stars, yet the reviews put it above many of the expensive 4-5 star places, people seem to really like it. It's not too far from the consulate and only $88/night.

I forgot to add my review like a month back.

We stayed at the Novotel hotel.

It's downtown and is about a 10 minute walk to the consulate.

The only reason we really got it is because they picked it for me via hotwire.

It was actually a really nice hotel!

3.5 stars and I was really, really impressed.

The staff are amazing, and the one we got spoke perfect English, just like her perfect French.

She was super friendly and explained stuff to us, like how the elevator requires the keycard to activate after 6pm. I really liked that feature.

The halls and elevator were spotless, no stains or weird smells.

We got to the room and walked in. It was clean! I usually walk into kinda crummy rooms every other time I stay in a hotel, but this one blew me away. The room was very well laid out and had a couch beside the bed. The bed was the most comfortable bed in the world, I ran and jumped onto it

The bathroom is what impressed us the most.

The set up was just awesome, I'd want a bathroom like it. The shower was pure glass with no tub, it was pretty cool. The toilet was in front of part of the counter, which would seem weird to people, but it was actually very nice. And very clean!

Needless to say this hotel really impressed us.

I'd stay there again, but only if we could keep getting cheap rooms there. I dont know if I could pay 159 ish for one night in a hotel.

We stayed at the Travelodge, which is a 10 minute walk to the consulate. We booked this through Hotels.com for $79.99 + tax, so it's fairly cheap. The downside is that the rooms are slightly on the small end. However, if you don't plan on staying more than one night, I'd recommend it. Oh, I should add that there are no bed bugs for those worrying about that.

We stayed the Le Dauphin Centre-ville, for $104/night via hotels.ca.

In my opinion, the place was incredible. It was very contemporary, the room was nice a big and the bathroom was very modern - glass showers, etc. It was all very clean... big screen TV in the room, computer with internet or WiFi for your own laptop. The elevator required a keycard to get anywhere but the main floor, and the front doors required a keycard to get in after 10pm.

The only downside was their very lacking complimentary breakfast in the morning.

Four minute walk from the Consulate, and for us, was a very nice place to stay. Everyone working at the hotel was incredibly nice and helpful whenever asked, and spoke perfect English along with French.

Just called the shuttle bus http://www.autobus.qc.ca/anglais/profil_an.html that will take you to hotel from airport in Montreal. You don't need to make a reservation when you arrive, it's when you depart. When you arrive the operator said to go to window or kiosk under "spot 5" and get your ticket. Bus departs every half hour. Still need to know exactly what "spot 5" is. lol Must be something outside where the buses and taxi are. wacko.gif

I would like to hear from anyone over the last few months that stayed at La Tour....I booked it because we are on a VERY tight budget..and really..the closer to the Embassy the better.....(interview Feb 05)

I read just as many reveiws that said they had no issues as those that did....and frankly..I think I might be getting an ulcer from the stress of everything......

Did you try hotwire? We booked our room on hotwire, it was less than La Tour and we ended up getting the Hyatt. Others have also got really nice hotels for a good price on there or priceline.com
