Hi there! I'm new here and my Honduran fiance and I are at the beginning stages of the visa process. I was reading through the list of documents we'll need to gather and had a question.

My fiance doesn't have an original birth certificate and when he went to the registry place in his home town, all they could provide him with was a hand-written "copy" as they have no computer there. Its on official stationary with an official seal. Has anyone else had to use one like that? Will this hand-written copy be acceptable for the visa process?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Suzanne

If it has the "offical" seal of the local registry office I think it will be o.k. . Make sure if it is in Spanish it is also translated into English ..

I have my original birth certificate and it is hand written..... they did not have computers when I was born.... I had no problems using it for USCIS...

Same here - my original birth certificate is handwritten (Mexico) - I helped the translator with the names and he did the rest: no problem.

Handwritten here too. In fact, UK birth certificates still tend to be handwritten by a registrar, which I think is rather nice. :star:

I'm in Guatemala (also in Central America), and the birth certificates here are just forms that are filled with hand writting.

They wont give you the original record as that one has to remain in the Civil Registrar's Office, they just give you certified copies, as the one you got. It doesn't matter that is hand written, it is an official document issued by a government's office.
