Gainesville High teacher to appear in court over 'dictator' award

A Gainesville High School teacher who was put on indefinite leave for allegedly awarding a student a “Most likely to be a dictator” superlative, is scheduled to appear in a Gainesville courtroom in May.

Lauren Watts is set to appear in court on May 27 at 9:30 a.m., after Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas refiled a complaint against Watts in February. A Leon County judge dismissed his initial complaint, citing a lack of due process.  

"A teacher chose to designate a student as the “most likely to become a dictator.” A parent brought this issue to my attention. I immediately took action to investigate the issue," Kamoutsas wrote in an Aug. 21 X post. "I found probable cause and will take every necessary action to ensure this teacher never teaches again."

This completely depends on the context of the remark, which the story doesn't mention.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

i think presenting a kid with the award "“Most likely to be a dictator" and in front of his peers is enough to warrant dismissal.
apparently this teacher also
