Hey Visa Journey!

I’m in the process of filing for my mom to get her Green Card, who is Jamaican born but holds Canadian citizenship. For the initial I-130 petition filed I included all of her Canadian Passport information on the forms. With the recent “ freeze”being placed on 75 countries, Jamaica being on that list is she still eligible and in the clear to apply for her Green Cardbas a Canadian although she wasn’t born in Canada? Much thanks!!

Yes.

Are there any exceptions?

  • Dual nationals applying with a valid passport of a country that is not listed above are exempt from this pause.

Thanks! I was getting concerned because I already submitted her I-130 petition and got wind of what was happening with the freeze after the fact.

Is mom now in Canada as she would need to interview there if petition is using her Canadian citizenship

Yes, Mom still resides in Canada and will  be doing her interview etc. in Montreal. I’m relieved to know she is in the clear, having Canadian citizenship. After hearing the news about the “freeze” in all of those countries had me amazed bit worried.

make sure your NVC documents show you have searched the cost of health care insurance in your state as the reason jamicia is om the ban is for using Public Benefits and she will loose her Canadian health care when she is in the USA  / cover all the bases so he doesn't experience a long AP after the interview

Good luck to you and mom
