K-3 won’t be happening.

If CR-1 then as said above it’ll be about 14-15 months (ish) until you expect to hear anything further, which will be when you get an approval. The only thing you might hear earlier is if you get an RFE

Then the next stage (the actual visa application) will vary depending on which consulate you’re at. Could be as quick as 3 months, could be 2+ years.

The whole process is laid out step by step here - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition/step-2-begin-nvc-processing.html

Thank you!!! I'm new here and with the whole application process... So I just recently sent in the I-130 and I-130a on the 4th. How would I know if after filing these applications if I applied for K3 or the other one you mentioned.

This isn’t necessarily chosen by you…but it all depends if you are married or not and how long. If you are married for less than 2 years on the day of entering the US, a CR1 is given…otherwise you would get a IR1.

K-3 is pointless. Do not waste your time, and more importantly USCIS adjudicator's time.

What did you tick on the form? At the top of it? It can't have been K-3, so presumably you ticked 201(b) spouse? And if you haven't filed an I-129f then you've not applied for a K-3 (just as well, as said above it would be a waste of time).

Because you didn't apply for anything at all. You filed a petition for alien relative on behalf of your spouse.  The I-130 puts you on the CR1 or IR1 visa path.  A second/separate I-129F opens a path to a K3 visa for maybe a day, before it is administratively closed in favor of the already filed I-130.  Being new should quickly be overcome by you studying the guide (top of any page here) and the actual form instructions.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
