Good luck! You´re so close now!!! So it was fast from the checklist to the interview? I am wondering about if I should get my certificates beforehand, or wait for packet 3, or how long after I start gathering those I should send my checklist.

Laura we had packet 3 ready (we downloaded it form the website) and we checked everyday to see if Rio got the papers from the NVC. After they did we mailed it to them by sed ex we had the interview date 3 days later. It was only a month later so they are giving the interview dates pretty close to packet 3!

Oh and we got the police records when we got the NOA2. We got the state records the same day and the federal records took about 3 days. So you can wait for that. We got the dr exam earlier because the doctor in Salvador was going on a 4 month holiday so we got that done earlier since it is valid for 1 year. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the awesome advice. The police records are valid for how long? And how did you go about getting them? Does it have to be personal? Is there a fee? I want to get all of that done once we get our NOA2, so I can maybe sent the consulate my forms and checklist at the same time.

The state was R$5 each. (Renato had to get one for 2 different states). The federal was free. They have a lit of th eplaces in your city for the locations. The ones listed for Salavdor were incorrect though (none of the phone numbers worked either  ). So we had to go to several different places. The federal police in Sergipe were very nice. Renato went to the places with a letter printed from the consulate website. They are valid for 90 days.

I just wanted to add that although the police certificates are said to be valid for 90 days, I called the US consulate in Rio and asked about the validity (as I wanted to have mine in advance, because I would be traveling out of the country for a while). I was told by the help line of the consulate that the police certificates were valid for one year.

This is what I understand you need to bring for support:

Affidavit of Support

- Form I-134 signed and notarized,

- Last 3 federal income taxes,

- proof of current job and

- proof of citizenship or greencard

At least this is what I plan on bring with me. If anyone else thinks of something else, please let me know.
