We did not pursue it further as I was married. I eventually immigrated to Canada in 2018. No, We did pay any fees or submit docs.

Then sadly I think that case will have died. You could have just told them you were married, changed category to F3 and kept your original Priority Date. You and your husband would probably have had visas by now.

When was that I-130 approved? And are you absolutely sure you did nothing further afterwards? None of the steps from 2 onwards on here? https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition/step-2-begin-nvc-processing.html

Which country were you born in?

LPRs can not sponsor married children, they should file the I 130 asap, a very long wait.

No unfortunately we did not pursue it further.  No docs were submitted either, I just received a letter from NVC asking me to continue with next step. But we never responded.

Ok, then unfortunately it’ll mean having to start from scratch I think, although may be worth asking NVC just on the off chance they’ll reinstate the case.

Thanks for your help! Pakistan.  Now I am a Canadian citizen. Will that affect my case in any ways e,g  processing times., will my F3 application be processed according to Canadian citizen's timeline or Pakistani citizens?

No

Currently they are both the same anyway

It makes no difference then. The only countries with their own Priority Date processing on the Visa Bulletin are India, Mexico or the Philippines. Canada and Pakistan both come under ‘All Chargeability Areas’. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2025/visa-bulletin-for-july-2025.html

Yes, either of them can, or even both of them (possibly a good idea so you have a second petition as back up, just in case - as awful as it is to think about - something happens to the petitioning parent). Just get it filed asap, so you're in the line and the clock starts ticking.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer appleblossom. I was looking at the form. You mentioned that both of my parents can fill out the application. I noticed it just gives option for 1 petitioner at one time. So how can both of them fill out? Will they have to fill out forms separately?

Also, which country will they consider for this application. I'm a citizen of both Pakistan and Canada?

Thanks.

They each fill one out

Okay thanks for quick answer .

1. So, they will fill out 2 forms separately and each parent will pay fee separately, correct?

2. Also, we are 3 family members, so 3 separate forms will be filed out or 1 one form is sufficient for 1 family?

3. Also, which country will they consider for this application. I'm a citizen of both Pakistan and Canada?

1. yes - then if something happens to one parent, you have a back up petition.

2. Your parents can only petition you. Your child and spouse will be derivatives on your application.

3. as above, it makes no difference as both countries are in the same category.

thanks again for your answer.

"2. Your parents can only petition you. Your child and spouse will be derivatives on your application."

So if do the math, 1 application will be submitted for myself only, and cost is around $675. This fee will also cover my wife and child, correct?

And if both parents submit it separately, the total cost will be 675x2=$1,350.

Thanks.
