you need the letter to schedule the medical exam and continue the process of gathering supporting documents

that letter will be sent once NVC forwards your case

You should mention in posts that the country /embassy is China as each embassy has specific requirements and steps in their proceedures and best responses will be from those VJ members going thru same

Understood. Therefore we do have to wait for the letter.

Also the embassy is the Dominican Republic. Will keep that in mind.

For information  NVC assigns a case number for the embassy only and sends the case onward when embassy requests

NVC does not process K1

If u know case # , you are set at NVC waiting for them to forward to consulate

from my understanding if i remember right, you get the case number then you go online to file ds160, then the embassy sends the welcome letter .

is that correct ?

I got my NOA2 on Apr4. It's been 61 days without any update. I noticed the people got NOA2 a week before me got sent to DOS one month ago. Does USCIS need to take a month to send a week's cases to DOS? I wonder if they process according to NOA2 date order.

I really don't know what is going on with USCIS now. My case was approved on March 20th and is still waiting to be sent to NVC. At the beginning of May and last week; I reached out to USCIS. I was told both times to follow up after 90 days. I will reach out to them back after June 20th. Hopefully something can be done before June 20th. Fingers crossed.

fill out ds 160 when NVC sends letter that it has forwarded to Casa

that will explain how to schedule the interview and to register to receive passport (hopefully with visa)

so you file ds160 then you get the welcome letter or is it vice verca.? at what stage my foriegn fiance pays for the visa aplication fee?

all of that happens when your case gets sent to the embassy

the embassy will contact the beneficiary (usually through physical mail) regarding next steps, including when to fill out the DS-160 and how to pay the visa fee

i doubt the embassy will contact the beneficiary before filling ds-160. dont they need the most recent updated address, you know ppl move around sometimes.

that is how it always been, at least in the most recent years. some embassies may do it a bit differently, but it is overall the same.

thats how my husband (then fiance) received notice from the embassy regarding next steps. he didn't fill out the DS-160 until he was able to schedule his interview. and that was after receiving a letter from the embassy informing him of the next steps of the process.

it's typically called packet 3.

if someone moved before getting to this point in the process, they would need to contact the embassy regarding their address change.
