There is a bill(HR8586) that has been introduced in the house to eliminate all family based sponsorships , except for spouse and minor children of US citizens and green card holders. i.e. Parents, siblings and adult children of citizens would no longer be eligible for sponsorship. While it is uncertain as to what the chances are that the bill will make its way into law in its current state , if this is an issue that you care about, you may want to reach out to your congressperson and senator to voice your concern

Sounds like it would make it more like the Canadian system, not that the bill will go anywhere.
