What exactly is an inquiry? Do you get more information about your file from there, or something else?

@Turquoise Sorry for the delayed response... busy weekend. Once the status of your I-129F goes from "Approved" to "Case Has been Sent to The Department of State" you can make an inquiry with the NVC to see if they have input your petition and created a Department of State case number. With this case number you can track the status of your visa application and where it is (At NVC, In Transit, Ready at the Embassy, Approved, Issued, etc.). I would give it about 3-4 weeks after the status changes before you make an inquiry. You will ask if you have a case number yet, attach a scan of the I-129F approval notice to the inquiry and in the first inquiry I would have them verify they they have the correct email addresses for petitioner an beneficiary. Below is an edited version of the first inquiry Jaycel and I made to them:

Our I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancée, was recently approved (June 1, 2024) and we received our I-797 (NOA2) from USCIS and were notified that our case was sent to the Department of State. We haven't received any further communication via mail or email and we were hoping we could obtain our NVC Case Number in order to progress with our application. I have attached our I-797 (NOA2) to this request for your reference. Thank you for any help you could provide. Also requesting if you could verify that our email addresses are correct as listed below: Petitioner: Edward XXXXXXX Petitioner email: email@email.com Beneficiary: Jaycel XXXXXXX Beneficiary email: email@email.com Thank you.

It took us 3 inquiries to get the case number. You can send them about 10 days between each inquiry

In about 3 weeks I would start sending inquiries via their public inquiry page (link below) to request your case number. There is a function on the form to attach documents where you should attach a scanned copy of the I-129F approval notice. Take the opportunity of the inquiry to make sure they have both the petitioner and beneficiary's email addresses. I would word the inquiry something like:

Hello NVC,

My Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) (I-129F) was approved on XX/XX/2025 and USCIS has notified me that my case has been sent to you. I would like to request that you provide me my case number if it is available. I would also like to make sure you have the petitioner and beneficiary emails updated in your system as follows:

Petitioner: email@email.com

Beneficiary: email@email.com

I have attached the approval notice for my form I-129F for your review.

Thank you,

Angie A.

If they don't have your case number available on the first inquiry, you can send a new request every 10 days. Once they create your case and provide you the case number, usually within a couple of weeks you will get an email from them with a K1-FTP letter attached which indicates that they have sent your case to the embassy. Once they provide you the case number, you can start tracking it on the CEAC Case Tracker site (Link Below)

NVC Public Inquiry site: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html

CEAC Case Tracker site: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx

Question - is there a difference between the NOA 1 and the NOA 2 - for some reason I am only finding the I-797C NOA which was the first one when USCIS received the case and I-797 NOA, which is the one stating it has been sent to NVC and it states it's only valid from 4/1/2025 to 6/30/2025, that scares me that it is about to expire.

I am not sure which one I should send to inquire about creating the next case through NVC.

Help!!!

This is the NOA2 which you will attach to your inquiry - Don't worry about the expiration date - The Consular Officer will extend the validity of the notice at the time of the interview - If it's going to expire before your interview, I suggest you and your fiance write updated letters of intent to marry to bring with you to the interview. Otherwise there is nothing you need to do about that expiration date.

Thank you, I submitted my inquiry and hoping to hear from them soon and thank you for explaining the expiration date.

I will be heading to see my fiancé in a month and wondering if there is anything I should bring him (original paperwork, etc) for his interview, when he gets it.

Hey!! Can someone help us??

We were approved March 26. Went to NVC around May, Case Ready on late May. We have been waiting for further instructions but I don't receive anything neither through mail or email. My consulate is Mexico (Ciudad Juarez) should I contact them?

If you were married before and either divorced or spouse is deceased, certified / official court copies of divorce decree or certified death certificate are required by the consulate for the interview

Hi,

I completely understand, we were approved the 1st week of April and our case got sent the last week of May, still haven't heard anything either but did send a public inquiry to the NVC asking if they created a case and haven't heard anything. I will be going to see my fiancé in a month and hoping I hear something before I go, planning on sending an inquiry every 10 days like some people have recommended.

Hi all,

So good news here, my inquiry did work, I just got an email this morning with the new case # and stating "We forwarded your immigrant visa petition to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate on 18-JUN-2025."

I checked the CEAS tracker and got this message -

  Ready
Case Last Updated: 21-Jun-2025

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://nvc.state.gov/interview
For more information, please visit TRAVEL.STATE.GOV.

My next part, I am a little lost because we haven't received a letter or anything, so I am not sure what the Petitioner myself or my fiancé is supposed to do next, help!!!

Which consulate is processing your case? It would help the other members here to help you if you filled out your timeline

We are in the Consulate of Morocco.

So confused, because when I check the CEAS tracker, the only way to search the Visa is as an Immigrant Visa, which is the DS 260 and I thought my Fiancé needed to fill out the DS 160. I am way over my head and thought maybe I could do this without a lawyer.
