One thing I am confused about is whether or not we need to present the originals of our petitioners documents (social security, birth certificate, ID/ licences / Passports, etc) in any form at the interview, or if good photocopies are sufficient.

The only "Original" document (Certified True Copy in reality) that you would need from the petitioner is a divorce decree or death certificate if a widow(er). It will need to be a certified copy from the issuing authority (court or vital statistics department, etc.) with the seal, signature and whatever else that authority uses on certified copies

Our case just went to DOS, we have our initial petition number but not the new one from the Consulate yet as our case is just now going to the NVC.

Regarding your documentation, will you send photocopies of your petitioners documents instead of originals / are those sufficient for booking your interview?

One thing I am confused about is whether or not we need to present the originals of our petitioners documents (social security, birth certificate, ID/ licences / Passports, etc) in any form at the interview, or if good photocopies are sufficient.

To book interview for Montreal you only need to email them your DS-160 confirmation page, the signed checklist and canadian police report. You don't need to scan the other documents on the checklist, but you need to bring them to your interview.

I also don't have the original birth certificate of my fiancé the petitioner, he only has one copy and it was a pain to get from his home country lol. He would kill me if I were to damage or lose it 😂

Hello all,

Our case was sent to The Department of State May 27, 2025, and have not heard anything. It's now going on 3 weeks, and no change has been made, wondering if I should send an email to the NVC asking about our case file.

This whole process takes so long :(

Do NOT email... They will not give you case details via email. Use the public inquiry link below. In that online form, there is a button to attach files. Attach a scan of you I-129F approval notice and in the body of the request, ask them if your case number is available yet. After that, ask them to make sure they have the current email addresses for the petitioner and beneficiary and then give them both your email addresses. This will ensure that the NVC and then the embassy has both of your email addresses going forward. If they say they haven't created your case file yet, you can inquire every 10 days or so.

Hello!

Our case was sent to
The Department of State May 16, 2025, and have not heard anything too((

I send an email to the NVC asking about our case  two days ago

Do you know - how long do they respond?
Will the response be sent to both emails?

Ah ok... so you got the acknowledgement email back from them saying they received your request? That's good... it can take them up to a week to respond. Right now they are processing Public Inquiry requests from 6/3/2025

Current Public Inquiry Form response time: As of 9-Jun-25, we are responding to inquiries received on 3-Jun-25.

Hello all

Our case was approved on April 10. It means it's been about 65 days with no updates. What should we do?

So not updates on your case being sent to DOS? Ours took about 55 days until it got sent to DOS, yours should be coming anytime soon if it hasn't been sent to DOS

What exactly is an inquiry? Do you get more information about your file from there, or something else?
