expired green card with extension sufficient (split topic)

Hello, please help, i have filed i-751 and got the receipt notice for 48 months extension, today my employer asked me to provide new GC as my GC is expired. i sent him the receipt notice for extension letter, i am now worried will they fire me since i don't have GC however the receipt serve as a GC status. but if they fire me what can i do what will be my options and rights. i am just worried since don't have savings and got this job after going through nuts. please help.

Same advice as here:

 

I believe you can get unrestricted SS card as long as you have GC and extension letter. Once you have DL / state ID and unrestricted SS card educate your employer that you only need to show those for I-9 verification. Employer cannot demand to see GC.

Hey there. Good question and I'm not fully sure on the answer but i can share my experience. I changed jobs during my extension period. At the time, I did not have my new green card but when the employer asked to provide information of my status I only uploaded my NYC Driving License and my SSN. This was enough information for them to accept and not ask questions around my GC. I've heard of stories in the past that in some cases you may be asked to upload the extension letter and the expired GC as proof. If the employer says they need a valid GC you should push back and say this is enough proof for I-9 verification.

SS card needs to be unrestricted for this to work. But yeah, this is the way to go. Showing GC for I-9 is not ideal.
