Ciudad Juarez Consulate - I Do Not Know What To Do Next - Please Help

Hello and thank you for your time.

My fiancée (25F in Mexico) and I (29M in the US) are currently in the middle of our K-1 visa process. We received our approval notice and then our case number from the NVC shortly after, on October 11th 2023. We were made aware that our petition had been forwarded to the Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. We completed our DS-160 and received our confirmation number.

My question is if there is some step we've missed to move this process along? We have not yet received any further communication regarding our petition/interview. Our notice of approval lists an expiration date of 12/31/2023. With the end of the year rapidly approaching, we are starting to get worried our case will expire and we will need to restart this whole process. Please let me know if you have any advice/information for us and thank you again!

For one thing, consulates can automatically extend petition validity for 4-month periods for up to a year.  They often do it automatically, but it's best to e-mail them to request this, with your case number in the topic line.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you very much! It's nice to be here in a group among people with insights shared experiences. I'll make sure to reach out ASAP regarding the expiration extension.

@StressedSloth I'm curious if you have an update on if you got an interview yet, I am in the exact same boat as you. I got the approval from NVC a couple weeks after you.

Crazy enough after hearing nothing and our expiration date already passed, I received an email yesterday saying we had an interview date and time scheduled! In our case, the date is scheduled in early February so now we are scrambling to figure out getting to the interview and all that. I'd suggest getting all documents in order now and be ready with a plan on how you or your significant other will be getting to Consulate. I know it sucks because they don't really give you an option, they just say when it's happening and hopefully you can make it work.

Wow nice I'm really happy to hear that for you. I'll definitely get started on getting all the documents prepared now. I was really curious on how long we would have to wait to get an interview date so it shouldn't be too much longer now.

We should be able to make it work with whatever date they give us, my SO will be able to take a direct flight from Mexico City so it should be relatively easy to make it work.

Can I ask you please, we were told to wait for a welcome letter before filing form DS-160 and paying fees. Is this what you did? Or did you file DS-160 and pay fees before welcome letter?
