unfortunately a person can find this any place..most time if you look closely enough it is the other person's baggage or issues that he/she is transfering to you....hang in there...and surround yourself with supportive peeps...

I always think it's better to hope for the best, but expect the worst in these situations so you can have a pleasant surprise when they wave you through. ;)

Haha, that's how I feel about waiting on Montreal... ever since May we haven't expected to get our interview until October or November. We're still hoping for early October though... but we'll see. You guys are the best, I feel so much better now. So much of what you said rang true. She doesn't have a man in her life, and hasn't for years, so I'm sure she is just being bitter.

I guess I also needed some reassurance about the whole POE thing since that was what was really stressing me out after her comment, but just hearing from all of you who have done this a million times before made me feel so much better :) It sucks that we have to deal with people like this on top of shoulder all the stress and obstacles that the immigration puts us through during all this, but that is just life. I hope she finds someone soon who will make her happy again so that maybe she will stop being such a stick in the mud.

The count-down is on. 11 More sleeps until I see my husband again

Some people have had bad experiences in relationships and assume all of them will be that way! :( I don't know the person you're referring to, but another thing is, often they are also at least partly to blame for their own negative experiences.

she's probably bitter b/c she either doesn't have a hubby or doesn't have a good relationship with him..

My wife has been away for work since April and get home in less than 2 weeks!! Funny thing is that during our almost 3 yr long dist relationship, the longest we spent apart was like 5 or 6 weeks, lol (of course the time together was normally weekends, and summer holidays, lol)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Ugh, Misty. Sorry to hear about insensitive comments. I hate it when I'm faced with people that clearly need to go for "sensitivity" boot camp.

I'm sure everything will be fine at the POE. It seems like one always worries the most when there isn't anything to worry about.

My husband doesn't understand this style of coping. When I fuss and talk endlessly about paperwork and all this ####### it's so I can "get it out", not necessarily that I'm super paranoid or something. I've tried to explain to him that it's a way of working this all out in my brain, but he just doesn't get it. Maybe it's a girl thing?

Maybe it is a girl thing. I know I've talked Bee's ear off about paperwork before.

Only 6 hours until I get to see my fiance! *squeeee*

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...

I need to vent! I've been getting so nervous lately, like I always do about my upcoming trip to visit my husband in a couple weeks. I have a huge fear that I will be denied entry at the border and that we will be devasted when we find out I can't visit. The fear is pretty much irrational, since I always arrive at the border with my paperwork in order, and will be coming even more prepared than usual this time around (two employment letters from full time jobs stating my expected return, return plane tickets, bank statements, pay stubs, plus my complete case file for the CR1.) But I think anyone on here can understand the nervousness since they really do hold our lives in their hands throughout this whole journey.

Anyways, I was working away talking to one of the girls here at work and told her how excited I am to finally see my husband again. Her response "Oh don't get all excited, everything will just blow up in your face."

What the hell kind of reply is that? It floors me sometimes how ignorant people can be when they don't realize how stressful this whole process already is on people like us, and especially how hard the time apart is when you don't know when the next time you will see each again is.

Anyways, sorry for the mindless ranting. It's 12:30am and I had no one else to vent at

I know how you feel been there done that matter of fact just this past May,even though we aren't married yet I still miss him like crazy! Anyway they held me up at the border for over 2 hours before they finally let me go, I had all my docs and the reason they did finally let me go was because I had a return ticket so good luck don't know if you wll get this message because i haven't a clue how to work this site yet but I'm workin on it so please bare with me!!

Has anyone dealt with people criticizing the USC spouse for being the main breadwinner while the spouse stays home and waits for the EAD? (Especially when the USC is a woman) My supervisor calls my husband (not to his face) lazy for not working and making me go to work by myself! He just doesn't get it...that he won't work illegally! What a jerk! He says stuff to get a rise out of people. I'm sure there are people on the VJ that get jabs like this all the time!

Not in my case. My husband made it clear to his friends and coworkers that I made 3x more than he did with my job in Canada and saved up a ton of money before I got here. Funny, their first thought when he told them he got married to a Canadian was, "oh be careful she's not a golddigger". *cough*... yeah, I don't think so! :P

That is just rude and totally inappropriate for your supervisor to be saying such things. Anyway you'd be able to report him?

Wow that is kind of effed up. My husband does have to work a lot of hours so that we can survive on one income at the moment while I wait for my EAD.(NJ is an expensive state to live in) However, I have an honours BA and have had great work experience. I can't WAIT to work! If anyone thinks I just slack it up all day on purpose then they obviously don't know what it is like. Americans want to hate on illegal immigrants but then get mad when people like us choose not to go that route? Seems a LITTLE hypocritical to me!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
