Not bothered by any language; in fact some are very plesant to hear, but sometime the volume is rather irritating and distracting to the point that I just stare at them until they walk away or lower their voices. Is it possible that the louder the voice the higher the insecurity is since I find that new immigrants of certain areas tend to over do it more than others.

that would bother me even if they were speaking English

My father hates it though. He always assumes ppl are talking about him.

Reminds me of a study on why people are so annoyed by people talking on their cell phones in trains. Turns out people were far less annoyed if the person talking was on speakerphone. The reason being was that the person could evesdrop on the conversation and therefore it was much less annoying!

I just start talking in pig Latin. PWNED!

I generally don't mind when people talk in foreign languages. Some of them are just beautiful sounding and it doesn't bother me at all. The only thing that occasionally irks me is when people are obviously talking about someone else and speaking in a foreign language so they don't know it. The glares, the snickering, the pointing... it reminds me of girls back in grade-school speaking those made-up languages so they could make fun of other girls without getting in trouble.

Funny you posted this. I was just thinking about how much I like hearing different languages all the time. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that I can't understand a word of it. I can't really explain why, it's just something that I enjoy.

Especially when I come back from Europe after a visit. I find that I miss hearing other languages.

It bothers me when ANYONE speaks over-loud in public, especially on their cell phones, but it's not like I have the right to tell them to quiet down (unless it's my kid, hee hee). But I'm a teacher so I've learned to tune things out.

I agree, not all ppl talk louder in a foreign language. I was just talking about my husband in particular. There are loud talkers in all languages.

I'm sure that there are nationalities the tend to speak loudly because it is what they have always done, but I'm thinking of the ones that do it to be 1. noticed and 2. in your face, it doesn't really matter what the language is there will always be someone wishing to draw attention to themselves

The sole reason I don't shave is I don't have a mirror :P

a pack of disposable shavers: $ 1.99

Mirror: $ 4.96

Looking in the mirror after you have shaved and honestly see if a problem lies within. :

priceless :)

Perhaps a higher tone (volume) is necessary in some instances and languages. Personally I rather talk softly to the intended audience than talk loudly for everyone within ear shot
