I-693 Courtesy EMAIL

Hello,

I adjusted from an E-2 Visa.

I recently received an I-693 Courtesy Email from my field office. This is not the deficiency notice which I received a couple of months ago.

This specifically states to send my I-693 to the field office. On the one hand, I don't want to delay and wait for an official RFE if this serves "like" an RFE and can be adjudicated promptly following submission. On the other hand, I don't want to send without an RFE if one is still required and to have my medical exam lost as per USCIS horror stories. Note the language under "how to respond" and the bolded language there. Disregard the generic info re I-130 as my I-130 has already been approved (I filed under consular processing but moved to the US through my employer and ended up adjusting rather than using NVC).

I know that many have received similar emails but I am not sure I quite understood what the bottom line is for this matter. Have others waited for the RFE or sent their docs?

Pasting the email with identification markers redacted.

Thanks

***PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL***

COURTESY EMAIL

Dear XXXXXX,

This is a courtesy notice, not a formal Request for Evidence (RFE).

USCIS has completed pre-processing on your pending Form I-485, Application for Adjustment of Status, with receipt number IOEXXXXXXXXXX.  Your application has been transferred to the Raleigh-Durham Field Office for further processing and will soon be assigned to an Immigration Services Officer for review.

If there is sufficient evidence in the record to render a decision, an in-person interview may not be required.  If any of the information requested below is missing or incomplete when your case is reviewed, you will either be scheduled for an interview or receive a Request for Evidence (RFE) in the mail.  To ensure that your case is processed as efficiently as possible, please read the following notice carefully.

What to submit:

If you submitted a completed form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, and sufficient evidence of your marital or other underlying relationship at the time you filed your Form I-485, then no further action is necessary, and an officer will review your case within the next several weeks.

If you are required to submit a Form I-693 as part of your application for Adjustment of Status but you did not provide this form at the time of filing, please complete and submit this form now.

·        A USCIS civil surgeon must complete and sign the form I-693, and you must also sign the form.  Additional information about designated civil surgeons and how to locate a doctor to complete your form I-693 can be found here

·        Civil surgeons must use the current Edition of Form I-693. You can find the current edition of Form I-693 on USCIS’s website at https://www.uscis.gov/i-693

·        Additional information can be found in the I-693 form instructions.

If your application for Adjustment of Status is based on marriage, USCIS requires evidence of the bona fides of your relationship.  If you did not submit this evidence at the time of filing, or if there is additional information about your relationship since the time of filing that you wish USCIS to consider as part of the record, you may submit that information now.

·        Evidence establishing a bona fide relationship from inception to the present may include:

o   Evidence of joint ownership of property, such as mortgage agreements or payments, property titles, or property registration;

o   Lease(s) showing the same residence;

o   Documents showing shared finances and obligations, such as joint bank accounts, credit card statements, utility bills, joint tax returns, joint insurance policies, insurance documents where one spouse is named as a dependent of the other, etc.;

o   Birth certificates of children born to both partners;

o   Pictures of weddings or other significant life events.

·        Do not resubmit evidence already provided to USCIS at the time of filing.  Only submit new evidence obtained between the date of filing and the date of this notice, or evidence that was not provided at the time of filing.

·        We recommend that you do not submit original pictures, photo albums, scrapbooks, or similar items as evidence.  Instead, please submit photocopies of any pictures or album pages on standard-sized paper.  Please do not staple pages or copy onto colored or over-sized paper.

How to respond:

Please do not reply to this email.

Submit any necessary forms or evidence to ensure a complete record and process your case as efficiently as possible by mail within the next two (2) to three (3) weeks to the address below. Please include a copy of this letter with your response.

USCIS Raleigh-Durham Field Office

301 Roycroft Dr.

Durham, NC 27703

Alternatively, if you have a USCIS online account, you may upload the requested marriage-related evidence through your USCIS account.  Do not open and upload form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record; this form must be provided to USCIS by mail in a sealed envelope.

Sincerely,

USCIS Raleigh-Durham Field Office

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know if people have been approved after sending the exam following this email rather than RFE?

I take it this email is a new thing? I am really hoping this will start the ball rolling as we are moving to Atlanta in June, and their processing times are somewhere between forever and eternity.

After RFE, I know of at least one that got approved within 14 days in our field office. A friend from here.

But she did indeed receive an RFE. I am curious to know whether anyone that followed their email's instruction and got approval. Also, others that sent following email and then received an RFE, did they ask for a second sealed envelope from their civil surgeon and send another one? This is all very confusing.

Does anyone else have any info re this email?

We are K1-to-AOS filer with an I-693 courtesy email from the Atlanta Field Office.

You can read our I-693 experience at

https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/798091-request-for-form-i-693-courtesy-email/

Our situation may be a little different from your's.

But we went ahead and completed the I-693 medical and submitted it.

So, I sent it in April 19, one day after the email. They received it April 20.

Today I got an approval notice. No official RFE, just the courtesy email.

So you were approved after submitting the I-693?

Yes, I was approved eight days after they received the exam.
