My wife's N-400 interview is scheduled for morning of 1-31.  She already has her 10 year GC and filed under 3 year rule.  I have seen they do same day oath.  However, she is having a name change.  Does anyone know frequency of Oath taking with name change for downtown LA office?

"USCIS schedules Oath Ceremony
If you are approved for citizenship, a USCIS official will schedule an oath ceremony. If you want your name changed, your ceremony must be in front of a judge (usually in a courthouse). Many oath ceremonies are not held in front of judges.

Ask at your USCIS interview if your ceremony can be held in front of a judge. If it can't or you don't want to wait until a judge is available, you will need to do a different process to change your name. " from https://selfhelp.courts.ca.gov/name-change/citizenship

 

I asked to change my name at the Downtown LA office back in August but the officer that did my interview said they were not currently doing name changes at that time. Not sure if things have changed this time around. Please update us if they are now allowing the name change in DTLA.

  • 12/04/2018: Mailed I-751 with divorce waiver
  • 12/19/2018: Received by USCIS
  • 5/02/2019: Biometrics appointment
  • 5/03/2019: Case updated to show Fingerprints were taken and applied to my case 
  • 1/28/2020: Received an RFE
  • 2/05/2020: Response To Request For Evidence Was Received by USCIS
  • 8/12/2020: Case received at my local office
  • 9/16/2020: Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview
  • 2/24/2021: Case scheduled for an interview
  • 4/06/2021: Interview done
  • 4/13/2022: Surprise Interview done at  my house
  • 12/08/2022: I-751 with divorce waiver APPROVED!
  • 12/21/2022: 10 yr Green Card Received.

 

N-400 timeline:

  • 01/26/2022: Applied online and received by USCIS, Informed of Biometrics reuse
  • 06/17/2022: Interview scheduled
  • 08/04/2022: Interview done. Passed English and Civics test but no decision could be made due to my pending I-751
  • 06/08/2023: Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed
  • 06/22/2023: Oath Ceremony - FINALLY A US CITIZEN!

FWIW, also in San Diego; my wife filed about two months before you, had interview scheduled two weeks ago (it took another week and a day for the letter to get here, but there was a PDF in her online account).

 

Filed on 2022-07-09 (online); don't remember when we got the notice of biometrics reused.

Interview scheduled on 2023-01-06 for 2023-02-13.

 

She applied under the three-year rule; arrived on a K-1 in March 2019, got her conditional green card at the end of September 2019, and got her 10-year green card last April.

Thanks.  She said the interview was easy.  Her oath ceremony is on Thursday 2/2.  She is very relieved to be almost done!

Finally received my Oath Ceremony Notice! It's scheduled for June 22, 2023 in the LA Office.

 

N-400 timeline:

01/26/2022: Applied online and received by USCIS, Informed of Biometrics reuse

08/04/2022: Interview done. Passed English and Civics test but no decision could be made due to my pending I-751
