Changing Consulates

Hello everyone,

This question has been asked a lot, but I have had difficulty finding an answer by reading through other threads.

Here is my context:

My I130 was approved yesterday. When I began filing, I was living in South Africa but have since moved to Thailand. I have a work permit and all the required documents to change consulates, my question is just how I would approach this?

Would I need to contact NVC once I receive my welcome letter, or do I simply fill out the NVC stage forms with my new address and bring all the needed evidence to the interview?

Thanks in advance,

Dewald & Brittney

Best thing is to try to contact NVC asap.   Sometimes approved petitions get dispatched out to the original consulate.   Maybe with current interview delays that isn’t as much of an issue, but I’d definitely notify them by email, and possibly the consulates as well.

Alright. That is what I will do. I wasn't sure whether or not to wait for an NVC case number, but I will use the template that has been posted in previous threads and email them today.

Thank you both for the help.

The procedure is to Contact NVC once they have the welcome letter and ask for the change.  NVC will want the evidence of residence including visa etc.  AND, the new address is used on the DS 260.  No need to contact the Consulate directly and cannot contact NVC until they have the welcome letter.  (They probably have the welcome letter by now, as it's usually only a day or two after petition approval.)

Thank you @pushbrk. I have already sent in an inquiry. On their website it stated that I can use my USCIS receipt number. They will probably only see that letter after I receive my welcome letter. Once I do receive my welcome letter, I will follow your steps to confirm that they have received my request. Currently I am visiting in the US, but I do have scans of my work permit with me and obviously my passport on hand that has the employment authorized visa in it. I will also attach my apartment's lease agreement for good measure.
