I have received my Permanent Resident Card before the EAD - am I allowed to work with the Permanent Resident Card without having the EAD?

Hello! I am a new member on this forum - i just registered yesterday and I find the discussions on the forum extremely interesting. I received my Permanent Resident Card yesterday (without an interview) - I applied for both the AOS and EAD in mid May but I only received my Permanent Resident Card so far - isn't this a little bit strange? On the back of the Permanent Resident Card it's written " The person identified by this card is authorized to work and reside in the US" - what's the point of an EAD then? Does that mean that I can legally work now only with my Permanent Resident Card? I would really appreciate you help! Thanks a lot!

Hahah.. Congratulations! Your I-551 card is the real deal and it supersedes any EAD or AP documents.

For you specifically, there is no point in the EAD card at all. You can just discard it when you eventually receive it. :)

08/27/10 - Received NOA dated 8/23/10 with a Priority date of 8/18/10

09/07/10 - Received Biometric RFE dated 9/3/10 -- Fingerprint apt. schedule 10/1/10

10/01/10 - Fingerprint Appointment-- Completed

10/09/10 - Received Interview Appointment Letter dated 10/6/10 for scheduled interview on 11/09/10

11/09/10 - Interview Passed

Sometimes it takes a long time to get through AOS and get the green card so the EAD is an authorization to work while the petition for LPR is pending. Claudeth received her EAD about two months before the GC so it ended up being a waste of money but I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, it's a matter of being lucky and of deciding if taking the risk is worth it. I didn't apply for EAD or AP and ended up getting the GC super fast. I'm still unemployed btw.
