Child Tax Credit

Hello,

I had a child in the USA and she was born in August of 2021. I am a United States Citizen, I got married to my husband in October and we adjusted status. He received his SSN in May and his greencard in June.

The IRS removed our child tax credit of $3,600 due to my husband not having a social security number by April 15th,

Has anyone else experienced this? When I called, the IRS said that both parents need a SSN or an ITIN to get the credit?

Did the agent tell me incorrect information? The information I am reading online is conflicting.

Explain how you filed if he did not have a SSN or ITIN.

Filed in May of 2022 when he received his social security number. Filed married filing joint.

Based on IRS.gov, I believe them to be correct. The same concept applies to those wishing to claim the 2021 stimulus  for their immigrant spouse. Had you filed for an extension before the filing deadline, that would have perhaps given you until October 15 to get his SSN.  Did you file for an extension or just file late?
