I have had many of the vaccines required on the list for US immigration, however, many of those vaccines were more than 10 years ago. If my history shows I got, e.g. typhoid, polio, tetanus etc in 2008, do I need to get those vaccines again before my medical examination, or is my status acceptable as is?

Thanks

You need

MMR.

TDAP

Chicken Pox

and

Covid vaccines.

Depending on the clinic they'll either accept your vaccine record, give you boosters or give you a titre test.

You can check this page for more information.

This is the list from the UK Embassy...

If you read posts on this website you will see the vaccines are age specific.

If you are between the ages of 18-64 you only require

MMR

TDAP

Chicken Pox

and Influenza (during flu season).

With added bonus of the COVID 19 shot for 8+

ETA

They will give you all the required shots at the medical for an extra fee. Or you can ask them for a titre test OR you can get your shots before the medical~ OR you can bring you vaccination record to the medical and they'll tell you if you require a booster.

Ok, so then back to my original question, TDAP, I've had those, but not since 2008 - do I need to get them again?

More than 10 years so I think yes~

My husband had a thing happen 2 years back and he got his TDAP because it had been more than 10 years.

Some UK specific shot information:

Here are the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

  • Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. In the UK they will give Revaxis which is Tetanus/diphtheria +polio. Adults don’t need polio for immigration but that’s the combo available in the UK. They don’t have a Tetanus and diphtheria only jab like Adacel given in the US.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella.  It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
  • Varicella (easily waived in the UK) - Not routinely given in the UK. A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam. They will also waive the shot in the UK for "not routinely available".
  • Influenza (waived if not flu season) - Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. If your medical is not during flu season, you don't need it for immigration.
  • COVID-19 vaccine - Completely vaccinated with dose 1&2. (New starting 1-Oct-2021).

You do not need proof of all of the baby shots on the CDC list.

Thank you for this detailed post, very helpful.

Final question - if I get it wrong and am missing something - what happens then? Do they reject the application? Or simply administer the vaccine at the medical examination appointment?

Visa Medicals in London will administer (for a fee) any shots you need. The only thing that can delay you is the Covid jab because you must have both doses and you must wait the required interval between. Whereas something like MMR, which is two in your life, can be waived for the second jab. If you went in with no MMR ever, they would give you one and mark the sheet with the waiver “insufficient time interval” for the second dose. That would be sufficient to get your visa.

Concerning your Covid vaccination record. Make sure the doses are recorded at you GP office with dates, batch number, and brand. They want to see those on the printout from your GP. It has been posted in the UK forum that your Covid  vaccination card isn’t accepted as proof. Proof must come from your GP on Covid shots.
