N400 - Lost 10 year green card, still have 2 year card

I was hoping to get some advice on this, I tried to search topics and found some conflicting information so was hoping someone might have some advice/recent experience with this.  My partner recently (last week) lost both his driver's license and green card.  We already have received his replacement driver's license so that's taken care of.  This morning we woke up to a notification that his N400 interview has been scheduled for February 22nd.  Now, I know that we can file a I-90 for a replacement green card, and pay the fee, but I was hoping to avoid this because of the cost and the fact that he won't likely have a replacement card before the interview (current processing times of a I-90 are 7 to 14 months according to USCIS website).  We still have his 2 year expired green card and all other paperwork from all steps in this process (I129f, AOS, I751, all notifications received in the mail, and a photocopy of his 10 year green card).  Since the letter sates the green card must be brought do you think they will accept the expired 2 year green card with an explanation that the 10 year was lost and we didn't want to pay the fee for a replacement since it would no longer be needed/valid/arrive in time before the interview or do we just need to bite the bullet, pay for the I90, and then attend the interview with the expired card plus the I90?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn’t order a new one for all the reasons you stated.  I would go to my interview as scheduled and talk my way through it. Unless someone had the same problem at your local office with your exact interviewer, then their experience wouldn’t really be of value to you. My interviewing officer didn’t want to see anything that was “required” at the interview. Yours may not either.

Do ask what happens at your oath ceremony where you are supposed to turn in all old immigration cards.
