Rental application

I'm filling an application to rent an appartment and I was wondering if my monthly income is the gross income, the net income or the federal taxable income? Since we are not making a lot of money I want to make sure we meet the requirements (monthly income - debts = 3 times monthly rental)

Thank you for your help.

Yes it is gross. Take if from me. I just got this apartment I am at now. First time I actually ever had to fill out an application for an apartment.

It is always gross income that is used for such purposes. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense, since we don't see 25% of this money, and it's kinda silly to determine someone's ability to pay based on the pre-tax income. But that's how things are done, and I'm sure there's a reason for it.
