Hello!

My US husband filed for return joint married + application for ITIN number back in July. I am a British citizen.

The IRS have only just got back to us, asking to see my passport again as my name doesn't match the W7 form. Our tax accountant had put my married name on the form, but we brought my old passport (maiden name) to the IRS office to be verified. So this is why the names do not match and flagged up with the IRS. My husband says they have created a case number for him however, which is a bit of good news.

Since July, I have a new passport with my married name now and I am about to fly to the states in a few weeks. We are planning to book an appointment with the IRS office so they can verify my passport details and hopefully get started on our tax return.

My question is will any of this affect our spouse visa process? We are currently at NVC stage waiting for DQ. We submitted our tax return copy 2020, 1099s and past 3 years transcript.

Thank you!

Your dealings with the IRS and getting documentation for an ITIN doesn’t have anything to do with immigration. Different parts of the government.

But how could you have a 2020 transcript when they haven’t  processed your return yet. Do you mean you sent a copy with SSN field blank?
