Greetings! I have a difficulty in filling up part 9 (time outside the US) because i go on cruises. Do i need to include my cruises even though i didn't spent more than 24 hrs in a particular country? For example, Alaska Cruise, wherein we spent only about 8 hrs in Canada.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If I recall correctly, they ask you to count using only complete days abroad. So if you left the U.S. on a certain day at 12:01 AM, that specific day doesn't count as you being abroad for purposes of calculating these days. For example, if you leave the U.S. for Country X on November 1st at 5:00 AM and return at 11:00 PM on November 3rd, you would only count the one full day abroad, November 2nd.

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but I have a question on this as well-

My wife is about to file her N-400 on the basis of marriage. It asks for her history abroad for the last 5 years, and for dates when she left the US. She’s been here over 3 years now and never left. Do we still write the dates in which she lived in her home country (prior to K1 visa and all that) or leave it blank since she has not left the US since getting her green card?

My understanding is that the wording/instructions are vague and confusing, and that if you are filing under the three-year rule, you only need to include three years of international travel history, so she can leave it blank.

Thanks for the help. I also read that even though you didn’t stay outside of the US for more than 24 hrs, you still have to include that as time outside the US because a cruise ship is considered as another country…confused here.
