That's absolutely atrocious. Have you considered filing a complaint with the Mexican consulate. I mean it probably won't do jack because it's Mexico but that is some over the top reprehensible behavior coming from immigration officials.

 

We were seriously considering traveling to Mexico as a family several months ago but nixed that idea after I sent an e-mail to the consulate here in Manila asking if it would be easier for her to obtain a visa if she was traveling with 2 U.S. citizens...one being her child. The Mexican consulate's response was more or less that it didn't matter.

 

However Mexico seems to have no problem being a happy waystation for every other illegal central and south American, caribbean, middle eastern, cartel mule, etc.. passing through Mexico to stroll across the U.S. border. Go figure.

The Mexican Embassy in Manila was actually really friendly before the trip.  No apparent problem with them.  But I can say with the highest level of certainty that their collogues in Mexico City could care less about the Mexican Embassy in Manila.

Patience is gonna be the key, I suspect they will open up in the next 6 months for tourism.  Partially due to Presidential Election in May 2020.

 

As of now the Philippines is the joke of the world in their handling of the pandemic, but don't worry now the Philippines is shifting to control mode, Elections are coming, they want the SHEEP controlled.

Thailand's sandbox (Phuket Island) is probably the best option close to Manila.  Costa Rica seems good too but getting there is a challenge for filipinos.

The Philippines is actually tossing this idea around and opening up Lapu-Lapu in Cebu using this model, I am not sure how serious they are about it.  I can see them re-opening between March - June 2022.
