Seniors ID card/ Real ID at California when AoS in process

Is it possible to get seniors ID or real ID when AoS is in process in California. My parent came on B2 visa and does not plan to drive but I want to get him an ID card.

Thanks. He has SSN but not EAD. Is it mandatory for senior to have EAD too ?

If his I-94 is already expired, yes, he must have the EAD to get a real ID.

This was our experience. If the I-94 is not expired then the ID or CDL will expire at the same time as the I-94.  If the I-94 is already expired then you need both an SS number and either the GC or the EAD.

797c from AOS will not work unless you have an expired EAD and the 797c relates to your EAD process. 

 

We were also advised by several DMV folks not to try the AB60 license because while you can get that one with no immigration status that it could red flag our immigration case. Because DMV in Sacramento has to report all this to USCIS etc. So it was best to just wait until we could get either the EAD or GC with a SS number.
