Hello,

We were able to transfer our K1 case out of Russia to Colombia earlier this year due to the stoppage of visa issuance in Russia. Now with the upcoming November vaccine rules, we are stuck in a very difficult situation. Russia only gives Sputnik, which will not be recognized (she is fully vaccinated with Sputnik.) Additionally, Colombia requires residency to get vaccinated (she is not a resident.) Given that we will have to do the medical in Colombia and the lack of options for us, is there a waiver or something we could get? It’s not a matter of us not wanting to get it, it’s a matter of us not being able to get it.

There’s a waiver if the covid vaccine isn’t widely available in the country of the medical. That’s something you will have to discuss at the medical. As this is very new and recent (covid vaccine requirement) there’s no info or feedback from those who went through a similar situation so I can’t tell you more. Do keep us updated here, this could be helpful to others in a similar situation.

On a side note, congrats with being able to transfer your case! Out of curiosity, the consulate in Colombia accepted your transfer even though the beneficiary doesn’t have residence there?

So I (the petitioner) am a dual Colombian and American citizen and Russians do not need a visa to enter Colombia. I am assuming that is why they accepted our case.

That’s great. Good luck with the process.

also check out the regional forum for Mexico, Latin & South America, few threads for Colombia and someone from Venezuela in a similar situation, they won’t be able to get a vaccine in Colombia because of lack of residency:
