They aren't just giving you those rewards out of the goodness of their heart.

Not off of us, but off of the merchants.  Sometimes, the merchants will pass those fees back to the customers (local government entities are very good about that).
 

It's sad that today we can make more interest off of CC use than a bank savings account.
