Sponsor Information

Hello everyone,

My name is J. Nihongi. I am applying for a spouse visa for my husband, who is Japanese.

I am an American citizen, but I was born and raised outside of the U.S. I have never lived in the U.S, but I have an American passport, birth certificate and social security number.

I was told that since I have never lived and worked in the U.S, that my husband and I would need a sponsor. What are the requirements for a sponsor, i.e. who can be a sponsor (family, friend etc) and what information they would need to provide?

I look forward to hearing your answers.

J.

You, as a US citizen,  do not need a sponsor.  You, as spouse/petitioner of the new immigrant,  will be the primary sponsor for your husband, and you will, likely, need a joint sponsor.  You can avoid a joint sponsor if you have sufficient current income which will continue after re-locating to the US or sufficient assets.  Keep in mind that you will also have to show evidence that you intend to establish domicile in the US.  You might want to start read this:
