Hi there,

I needed a proof of my legal residence in the US for which I called the USCIS phone # to schedule an info pass. My original conditional GC and the extension letter have both expired, so I assumed I'd get an i-551 stamp in my passport which seems pretty common. However, while I'm still waiting for the info pass appointment to be scheduled, I received  a update in my USCIS account stating that a new card is being produced for a pending i-751. Is that normal or it's another glitch on their website? Would love to spare my time and effort and just get a new card instead of having to go in person.

Separately, do I need to bring my newer tax returns to the interview (whenever that happens) for the time and years that have passed since initial filing?

Thank you very much and I hope everyone stays cool during this brutal heatwave!

It is a little confusing.  Do you know for certain you are going to have an interview for the I751?  There are cases where interviews are waived especially if one had an interview for an AOS at some point.  If the system shows a card is being produced, I would think that is correct, but there have been glitches before.  I would stay in the queue for getting the I551 stamp until you receive either the new GC, or the mailed NOA that the I751 was approved.  If you do actually have an interview, yes, bring your updated taxes.

Good Luck!

To me, it sounds like USCIS approved your I-751 and that is why you got the "New Card is being produced" status update.

You asked about bringing tax returns to the interview. At this point, the only interview you will have is for the N-400. I would wait for the letter to arrive whenever that is. It will have specific instructions. Typically, If you are applying under the 3 year rule, then you would bring evidence of bona fide marriage to show that you are still married to the same US citizen. And yes, typically, you have to present any taxes you did not submit with your N-400.

thank you @Dashinka and @USC4SPOUSE.

Sorry about the confusion, I should have phrased it better.

I have pending i-751 case; no interview so far for that one, nor a decision like wording for it under the "case history" tab. My latest update on there is "card being produced", the one before that was months back and is a notification about a biometrics appointment. I don't know whether or not Im going to have a i751 interview, but so far I have not had one. How would I know its waived or not?

I know there have been glitches in the past BUT I have a pretty good feeling that they approved your case. You would know for sure by calling or asking Emma. Truth is that if you ask Emma, she'll likely point you to the status update.

If you call, I think you have to say "technical problems" to be connected to someone.

If you were approved, and I think you were, you will soon get an email updates regarding your card. "USPS picked up card". And you will also get a tracking number.

If you do not have USPS Informed Delivery, I strongly recommend that you get it. That way you will see an image of the envelope once it is on its way.

What visa did you come to the US under that resulted in you getting a 2 year GC?  Most of the interview waivers at the I751 stage I have heard of, were those that came on a K1 and had to complete the I485 process here in the US which resulted in an interview at that stage.
