My fiance and I got approved for her k1 Visa in March of this year.our case was sent to the department of State and we have been waiting to get our case number. We just got informed that the department of State has sent our case back to the USCIS for review.

My fiance never got her case number and never had an interview at the US embassy (Japan).

Has anyone else experienced this,I'm trying to understand what it means.

Any help would be appreciated

Typically a clerical error made by the USCIS.   And yes you are not the first.

YMMV
