u can get it with commisionaires within 7 days call them and ask for Police certificate

It depends on whether you need fingerprints or not. If you have been arrested, or have a criminal conviction, then you need a full police fingerprint check which takes between 4-6 months. If you have no criminal history, you need only a name check which takes two weeks, and is normally done through the Commissionaires.

You cannot use a city police force, the consulate will not accept their police certificate - it must be RCMP.

What part of Canada are you in? I assume Alberta? I belive only the Greater toronto area uses the Commisionaires!! Everyone else uses the RCMP. I had my RCMP check completed in 3 days and it was free, (most do charge a fee I believe) Some you get right there, others take longer. If you just require the name check, maybe the officer on the phone was confused, as stated above if you have had a criminal record, you wil require fingerprinting, which does take awhile!! If they are stead fast on the 3-4 months, phone another detachment!!

I didn't need fingerprints and got the criminal record check from the city police in Saskatchewan. It was accepted by NVC.

My daughter and I both got ours done at the local RCMP detachment in B.C. They did it while we waited and the charge was like $35.00 each.

I'd suggest calling your police department and asking them what system they use. If it's the same one as the RCMP uses, then just go to them. I had mine fifteen minutes after I handed them the application.

that's where I was....I used Commissionaires, around Dixie/401....$35 or so and was able to pick up in a week

I think in Ontario only the Commissionaire's will do them, I checked with my local police force (York) and they don't do them for immigration. You can check with Peel, but you might as well just go to the Commissionaire's.

I used an O.P.P police check. I went to the Brampton Office, the one on HWY 10. I told them I needed it for Immigration and they said "no problem".

i couldn't believe that it would take that long because i would have seen a post about it by now.

the woman i talked to was talking the whole fingerprinting thingy. she said the name check isnt valid for immigration but i think she's enjoying a little too much of the confiscated weed.

i just called my local RCMP branch and told them i'd lived there for 20 years and they hadn't arrested me yet. she laughed and said they would send someone right over to take care of that!

anyway she said it would be $15 and take about 5 minutes.
