Well I think Canadian licenses are probably a special case, there's probably some agreement between Canada and the USA. I think people from other countries are not so lucky.

Luckily, passing the test in the USA is easy for anyone who's got a license from a non-US country.

Not so, Dr_LHA....I'm Canadian and I have to take written + 2-part in car exam. Not a walk in the park by any means. I should just go to Florida to get it done, then come back up to Ohio and switch it over ;).

Fair enough, it most likely varies from state to state like all DL issues.

That said Ohio are particularly pathelogical in their handling of DL for foriegners. For example, if you're not a permenant resident they issue a "non-transferable" license, which means if you move to another state, you have to take your test all over again!
