Hi everyone,

Please let me know if im posting it on the wrong forum. But my question is, if I arrive in the states and need to be quarantined for 14 days (which is required in the state that my fiance lives in), I get tested before we get married, and what would happen, if God Forbid, I tested positive? What would the procedure be? Would they make me leave the country at that point? Will it affect the adjustment of status process (i.e. the medical form)?

Obviously, I would be super careful on my travels to the states, but what if I catch it?

Thank you so much in advance!

Quarantine isn't necessary if you get a negative test result: https://www.mass.gov/guidance/guidance-for-travelers-arriving-in-the-commonwealth-of-massachusetts

"Travelers must certify that one of the following is true:

  • I have received a negative test result for COVID-19 on a specimen taken no longer than 72 hours prior to my arrival, consistent with Massachusetts Department of Public Health Guidance
  • I plan to get a test at my cost and will remain in quarantine until I receive a negative result
  • I have taken a COVID-19 test and am awaiting my result and will remain in quarantine until I receive a negative result
  • I will quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Massachusetts or for the duration of my stay if fewer than 14 days."

No. A positive test result won't result in that.

Most K-1 AOS applicants don't need to do I-693 medical exam: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-b-chapter-3

K or V Nonimmigrants Applying for Adjustment

K and V nonimmigrants applying for adjustment of status are not required to repeat the medical examination if the application was filed within one year of the date of the original medical examination, and:

  • The medical examination did not reveal a Class A medical condition; or

  • The applicant received a conditional waiver in conjunction with the K or V nonimmigrant visa or the change of status to V and the applicant submits evidence of compliance with the waiver terms and conditions.

Ever since the pandemic started, government and travel regulations have often changed rapidly and with short notice.

The links above are good resources, but I checked your timeline @zephypat and it's incomplete. Do you already have your visa? If not, by the time that you do receive it, the rules may have significantly changed.

Have you also thought about what kind of travel insurance / health insurance you can get before marriage, in case you not only catch COVID-19 but get sick enough to be hospitalized?
