My fiance and I applied for a K-1 Visa back in January, and recieved notice in May it was approved. As I imagine it is for anyone, the whole process is confusing and scary for us. being that my fiance is not fluent in English, researching the process has been mostly my responsibility, then translating what I understand to him.

He is from Mexico and so our interview is in Ciudad Juarez.

We are not traditional, and although we want to be married and start a faily are not planning on a big wedding or even an engagement ring, but I'm wndering if we need to have one just to "proove" we are together?

Also, I'm wondering about what we need for the interview. I've been living with him in Mexico for the last year. I'm back in the states now, but still don't have a job. When I get a job, I should have a contract, but I won't have months of pay stubs for our interview. Will I need someone else to sponsor him?

Also, does any one know if these visas are usually approved, or are many rejected?

Any other advice is welcomed. I love this site and have been searching on it... but this whole journey is confusing, frustrating, and scary. I don't know what we'll do or where we'll live if we don't get the VISA.

Thank you so much if you take the time to respond to me!

First off, read the guides. Start here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow

You'll need to prove that you've met eachother in person within the last two years (passport stamp, photographs w/ dates, hotel receipts, etc)

About work: there's a minimum amount of money you'll have to make to show you can support your fiance when he comes to the states to live (once k1 visa has been approved) and how many other ppl will be living in the household...http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864P.pdf

If you don't make 125% over the poverty line (as shown in the link), you'll have to get a sponsor

I think the affidavit of support may actually be optional for Mexico, but it wont be when you reach the AOS stage. Even if you were living outside of the US, but you were still a USC, you have to file yearly tax returns. You can use the tax returns to show that you are able to make enough money.

Thanks for all your replys! It's so good to find a source for info from other people who are going through the same thing!

What do you all think about the engagment ring?

We have a lot of proof we have a relationship (we've been living together the past year), but we don't want a ring. But with proving our relationship, I wonder if they won't believe us if we don't have one.

Thanks again,

ok

Yes, we plan to live in the US. That makes me think of another question, I don't know if you can answer:

After we get the fiance visa do they usually give him his temporary resident status before the fiance visa expires or will he have to go back to Mexico and wait for it?

Thanks so much!

Once he arrives in the States on the K1 and you marry within the 90 day timeframe it would be a good idea to file AOS (and EAD/AP if needed) as soon as possible so that he isn't out of status after the I-94 expires. He does NOT need to leave the US to wait for the conditional green card.

after your k1 gets approved at the us embassy in the foreign country, he'll have somewhere between 4-6 months to ENTER the USA..

from the day he ENTERS the USA, he'll have 90 days to get MARRIED TO YOU.... then you adjust status and all that good stuff
