I believe there was no difference between the two, I can't give you a 100% guarantee however, I can confirm that most people who have received an interview from September and October were IR1 category.  I recommend you confirm with people who are waiting for an interview from March 2020 are actually IR1/CR1.  The only way it would make sense is if the consulate never opened up after Covid since March 2020 individuals were at the top of the queue.

HEY. GUYS LOOK!

As of June 7, 2021, the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai is reopening Immigrant Visa Unit appointments of all types:

  • Rescheduling of cancelled appointments
  • SB-1 status and visa applications
  • LPR services (boarding foil)
  • Reissuance of expired visas
  • K applications

We will continue to contact those whose appointments were cancelled in April-May 2021 and Spring 2020, in chronological order, by visa category, with instructions to continue processing their cases.  We are also resuming 221(g) submission in all categories and the scheduling of routine cases through the National Visa Center, by visa category, as public health conditions allow.  We cannot predict when you might be contacted for an appointment.

Due to limited appointment availability, we are currently unable to reschedule any cancelled appointments directly, and availability for rescheduling may be very limited, with appointments unavailable at some times. We are also unable to speculate on or respond to inquiries regarding potential future cancellations or appointment availability.

New appointments can be made through our website. We will add appointments as often as we have availability, but we expect appointment slots fill quickly.  Please continue to monitor our website for appointment availability.  Detailed information on the current status of visa services and restrictions related to the COVID-19 global pandemic can be found here.

Please note that travel restrictions remain in effect in many states in India and the availability of appointments does not mean that you will be able to travel to the Consulate or a Visa Application Center (VAC).  Please ensure you will be able to travel before making an appointment.

As appropriate, visa applicants should follow the instructions given to them for registering for appointments, and monitor their email address for confirmation and further information. Multiple separate attempts to contact the Embassy or Consulate will slow communication.

For answers to applicants’ most frequently asked questions, please visit our Top FAQs page.  You can find updates on our operational status on this website.

For visa inquiries, the best and fastest way to communicate is to email to support-india@ustraveldocs.com or call the call center during business hours to speak to a representative.

For detailed information about the current status of visa services worldwide and visa restrictions related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, visit travel.state.gov.

It's good to hear that they are rescheduling cancelled interviews, although it appears to me that they are not going to be processing them at the same phase as before the second wave.

Hello Everyone, I have been waiting for my CR1 visa interview appointment for a while, I finally received an email, but it says:

“We previously notified you of the date and time of your immigrant visa interview at the U.S.Embassy/Consulate General in MUMBAI (BOMBAY), IND.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel this interview. We will schedule a new interview appointment as soon as possible and notify you of the date and time. There is no need for you to take action at this time. “

I was never informed of an interview date previously, has this happened to anyone else?

Also, for medical exam, I am

from Punjab; and there are no listed approved physicians for Punjab? Does this mean I have to go to Mumbai or the other further approved physicians for medical exam?

When was your case completed at NVC, also there is a hospital in Mohali that is approved for the medical.  Recheck the list of approved hospitals there was one in Delhi and 1 in Chandigarh or Mohali.
