I submitted my naturalization application in January, 2020. After a month in march, 2020 i went to india to get married. At the time of filing the application for naturalization I submitted it as single since I was not married. Should I update my N-400 application that I’m not single but married? Will it delay my case more? What if I don’t update will they know? I’m still waiting for my biometrics which was scheduled on 31st march but got cancelled due to pandemic and now i’m still waiting for the new date.

I believe you should wait and update the info during interview. You have proof of being single  when you applied and got married afterwards.  Goodluck

Congrats!

I don't think there will be any delay. If there's a delay, it's more of background check and/or long immigration history.

Make copies of the N-400 pages that reflect all changes (travel, marital status etc) that occurred after the n400 submission and give them to the IO during the interview.

Your naturalization certificate will show your current marital status. I don't know if IO will ask for marriage certificate but you might as well bring it along with some photopies. IO asking for one and you not having it might be a cause for a delay. As much as possible avoid the 'decision can't be made'...

In any case, Jacksonville FO is pretty fast pre-COVID and most are finished within 5 months or so. Who knows, you might be getting your interview notification anytime soon!

Thank you very much for the information.

So the final take away is that I should update my marital status during interview. Yes I do have all the necessary documents (hopefully) I need as evidence of my marriage as in marriage certificate, my wife's birth certificate, photographic proof (if required), etc.

Thank you very much for the information that naturalization certificate has a martial status column.

I know Jacksonville office was fast pre-COVID, but right now I don't know what is going on. I called them on the first Monday of August for new date and they told me that Jacksonville office opened from that day itself and they will send me the new date by mail. I don't know how true that is as I read that USCIS local offices were supposed to be open from 4th June itself. Also they told me on phone that they cannot give me a new date, the local office will send me one. Pre-COVID they use to transfer to tier-2 management for biometrics appointment. Now they don't even do that. It's been frustrating

Yes, marital status, height, gender, country of former nationality and residence city.

I somehow missed that you haven't done your biometrics since you applied in Jan. Pre-COVID almost all ASCs had their biometrics appt around 21-23 days after application. Your March 31st biometrics appt for a Jan submission was way too late. I wonder what happened. You could have had your biometrics in Feb when everything was still up and running.

Hopefully you'll get your biometrics appt soon! Pre-COVID a lot of JAX filers got their interview notification within 3 months of biometrics but with things going these days and a lot of COVID cases in JAX...

So I had to postpone my biometrics twice. I had travel of the country from 23rd February - 11th March. I didn't knew back then that I would have to when I submitted my application at the end of January. so the 1st date I got was 1st March and I got to know before I was travelling, so I postponed it. While on call with the USCIS rep from tier 2, I explained her that I'm travelling, so any date after 11th March. So she said she would put a note of that. However, I still got the next date on 10th March, which was not possible because I would not be in the country. I came back and called and got a new date for 31st March for which I got a mail too.

And right now I'm hanging in no man's land.

Man, you have to prioritize this stuff. Im sorry to say this but you're in no mans land because of yourself, you could've been done and over with all that. I'll cancel any i mean any personal things to get that done no matter what it is because you just never know what could happen.

Unfortunately, there were some things that you could have done without postponing the biometrics... apply for N-400 a little bit earlier, leave abroad at least 1.5 months later, try early walkin for biometrics...The biometrics appt date and interview date (after notification) are the easiest to predict but the rest are uncertain. Even if you get an interview notification the day after biometrics, they will still give you at least a 30 day notice.

As they say water under the bridge. Just go about your daily life and I guess call USCIS. If I were you, even if it's a pain, I would call to say hi and ask them every Friday or Monday until I get that biometrics appt notification! For me it's better than just waiting, esp it's for a biometrics appt. You can't do much but wait if you already had your biometrics.
