Hello,

I was at the websites of a couple J1 Visa Sponsoring Companies and I saw notes that J1 Hosts should not be home-based such as:

Note: Home-based business are not permitted

-or-

Having an official office location (freelance or home offices not
eligible)

Now, the host that's willing to offer me an internship is a Sillicon Valley startup operating from an upscale mansion, does this count as a "home office"?
Also I didn't see this requirement at all on government website that hosts need a "real office", could this requirement be Sponsor-dependent?
Maybe other J1 Sponsoring companies won't have a problem with mansion being an office?

Thanks everybody.

Any sponsor must be part of the official Designated Sponsor Organizations. They will place you with a suitable host, that already fulfills the requirements and is willing to have you as an intern.

I already found an internship as I said above

No they're not

Then you can not get a j1 visa thru them

Look for originations that are approved

No they're not

As mentioned in the previous post, you CANNOT get a visa through them and they cannot host you if they're not registered with an official sponsor.

Only State Department-designated sponsors are authorized to issue the Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status (Form DS-2019).

The program sponsors are the ones responsible for screening and selecting the participants in their designated exchange visitor program, and it is JUST through them that you connect to hosts and employers.

That doesn't make sense, then why do most of the sponsors REQUIRE ME to secure an internship before even finding a sponsor?
