Sounds good! Where do I sign up? Multiculturalism is a farce. We used to be the melting pot of the world. That was good. Now we are a patchwork. That is bad.

Anglo Saxon culture? At least put the blame where it lies - the Saxon's were conquered by the Normans (French) in 1066. There is no Anglo-Saxon culture - hasn't been for nearly 1000 years.

It doesnt help when proposed bill to fix illegal immigration has clauses to limit legal immigration. So the anti-immigration people ( which is actually a relativly small minority), and the anti-illegal immigration people all get lumped together into one category.

So the moral of the story is, if you want to fix illegal immigration, keep the anti-immigration nuts out.

Yes. The "Anglo-Saxon" culture should prevail. For a multicultural society to remain a society

(rather than a set of fragmented enclaves), there must be one dominant culture that is mature and

powerful enough to absorb other cultures and also be enriched in the process. There is no other way.

I suspect that Tancredo's particular brand of xenophobia might, outside of a VJ immigrant community, be very compelling. Here's an idea to kick around: most people who hate illegals enough to want to ban legal immigration probably are not having contact with illegals, but legal immigrants, who scare them by not speaking English or having different customs. So my bet: quite a lot of Tancredo's supporters are just flat-out racists. It is not pro-illegal kooks getting the distinction wrong. Tancredo's doing that all by himself.

As far as assimilation goes, it works both ways. The dominant culture changes a little bit, and the new immigrant culture changes a little bit more. There was a time when the U.S. chattering classes worried about the influx of those dirty, fighting, Catholic Irish. They would take over good Protestant culture! And you know what? They were a little bit right. How many people dress up on St. Patrick's day because they're 1/16th Irish?

Yep. This country's biggest enemy is fear.... fear of change, fear of something different, fear, fear, fear. FDR's timeless wisdom was forgotten after 9/11.
