Hi there,

I was planning on shortening my name and probably americanize it a little. However I've been reading here and there that might induce a delay due the need of a judicial ceremony and probably even more delays now for a judicial ceremony due to COVID-19 and the protests. I wonder if anyone has experience with this now.

I don't mind changing names at latter date and just prioritizing getting done with citizenship first. I depend on the Texas - San Antonio Field Office but couldn't find information about judicial cremonies on https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-a-uscis-office/field-offices/texas-san-antonio-field-office

What do you guys think?

Thank you!

You can request the name change on the date of your citizenship interview -you'll be given a form to fill that includes that field-.

It shouldn't cause any delay.

So, I put no name changes on N-400 and ask for it at the interview?

You have to check your specific jurisdiction. Certain ceremonies can't include name changes depending on who is performing it and whether they have authority to sign name changes, and you'll have to wait for one that does if that's the case.

In my jurisdiction there were ceremonies with name changes once a month and without name changes about once a week when I naturalized.
