I applied for my SSN in December 2019. They basically told me the same story about DHS, and after going back in february  told me im out of luck.  Just going to have to wait until the EAD gets approved i suppose.

Hello all,

I arrived in the U.S in early March on a K-1. My arrival coincided with the point at which lockdown measures were imminent. I applied for a social security number 4 days after I arrived (I know it's advisable to wait a couple of weeks, but I rightly assumed that Social Security offices would soon be closed to the public).

As I expected, I was told that the application would be subject to a manual review by DHS, who would confirm my entry to the country.

It's been nearly 3 months, and I still haven't received my social security card. I've called the social security office, who told me that DHS are massively delayed due to Covid, and that the social secutiyy office are still awaiting manual confirmation from DHS. I was told to call back in a couple of weeks.

I'm happy to accept that the circumstances at hand have caused some delay in applications, but I'm also cognisant of how paperwork can fall down a hole in the government-bureaucracy-industrial-complex, and how 'delays on the other end' can be used as a catch-all excuse.

With this in mind, is anyone here in a similar boat (Applied for a SSN just before the lockdown)? If so, how long did it take?

If it turns out that my wait has been excessively long, can anyone advise as to what I can say to the social security office when I call them back?

Many thanks

We have the same experience I applied February 24 for my SSN card then after three months still no card i received so I decided to call Ssn office they checked and it was already issued and mailed but I did not receive anything on our mail meaning it was lost and they did not know where it was delivered. The Social security employee instructed me to resend all my original documents and my verification letter showing that i already went last Feb 24 to their office so that they can replace my lost card. This week i followed up again because i sent all my original docs last week then they told me just to call again next week and ask if its already processed.

This is incorrect, K1 visa is one time entry, it is expired as soon as you POE. There is no such thing 90 days of status, you have 90 days to get married.

Hi,

I m almost in same situation I entered to US with k1 visa on beginning of march and i waited for 2 weeks to apply for SSN but all office were closed due to global pandemic and i havn't applied yet for SSN. I called like every week the social security office and they said i can't apply for SSN through mail or online so they asked me to wait until they open, I just called this week and lady told me when your visa fiance will expired i said last month so it's already been expired and she said we can't accept your application. First it's not my fault they don't being open and couldn't do application by other way than going in person. Then i m confused about what expiration of visa fiance means because on visa stamp on passport isn't yet expired but according to my I-94 I 'm already over 90 days. But on visa the expiration date is until next month!!
