Visa medical - question about Public charges and “substantial departure from a normal state of well-being or level of functioning“

I have my medical coming up on the 23rd of March and I’m freaking out a bit.

My husband lived with me in the UK for two years before we both decided we were unhappy in our jobs and to start fresh in the US. During that time I was off sick from work due to stress, depression and anxiety (caused -by- work) for a period of four months. This spanned late May to -late September 2019. However During that time I underwent therapy and no longer need antidepressants. My GP letter confirms this.

When we decided to move in October 2019 I went over to the US for a visit to help my husband find a job, apartment and to settle. I’ve been back in the UK since January and have therefore been unemployed from October 2019 to present. However, I did receive a job offer in writing in January which I will take with me to my medical, but since I would’ve had to front a lot of training costs myself that I couldn’t afford and wasn’t aware of, I refused it. So I’m clearly still employable even if I’m currently unemployed.

My question is, has anyone been through a similar situation and what was the outcome of their medical? Can anyone in-the-know shed some light as to whether this classes as a “substantial departure from a normal state of well-being or level of functioning” and if you think I’ll be refused a visa based on this?

I have no other medical conditions and take no medications. I had my gallbladder removed in 2017 and had some sickness absence prior to and after that as a result of the removal. I will also have access to health insurance through my husbands company should I be awarded a green card which I can prove. Will they see me as likely to become a public charge?

I’ve never used drugs or had any communicable diseases. I’m up-to-date on all vaccinations and had a flu vaccine feb 27th.

This is the only thing that’s bothering me and I’m getting a bit concerned. Help!

Absolutely nothing to worry about. The "substantial departure" would be for those who could not function that their depression, drug usage, alcoholism or consumption is so debilitating they are unemployable.

You are the beneficiary so there will not be that kind of weight looked at your situation since it's the petitioners responsibility to support you.

If depression in itself was a denial reason we would have less folks able to immigrate.

I am sure you read this but here's for others who wonder the scope of the Medical.
