Hello,

So I am in the USA waiting for my Green Card Interview and see that my Australian Drivers License is expired.

Can I or should I renew it? Also when the time comes that my Australian passport will expire, can I or should I also renew that?

I'm just not sure if I am allowed to have a valid Australian passport and license along with a U.S. passport and license (when the time comes).

Thanks!

The passport is pretty easy to renew anywhere in the world, usually by visiting a local consulate, or a lot of them have mobile consulate services where they travel to different cities to help citizens renew their passport. The drivers license I'm not sure you can renew like a passport, usually has to be done in the country that issues it.

I currently have us passport and US(Nevada) drivers license. I also hold a Thai passport and drivers licenses for Thailand with no issues. Thailand for some reason issues 2 separate license, one for personal auto, and another one for motorcycle. I have both.

Drivers license not super important, but definitely keep your passport current.

I managed to renew my Australian drivers license because I thought it was cheaper to hire cars when in Australia with an Aussie license, but I asked last time I rented one and was told that it's the same cost as long as I'm over 25.

I don't see that there's no need for one - if you live in the US you need a US drivers license if you intend to drive. If you need it for proof of identity you can get an ID card in most states.

Plus how are you going to get it? The motor vehicle department from your state will post it to your "Australian" address where you don't live, and you'd be lying to them about where you reside.

IMO an unnecessary expense and difficulty for zero net gain
