My wife is desparate to visit Colombia - bad case of homesickness after 2 years away. BUT... we are ready to file for 'removal of conditions' on her greencard (early June is filing time). Question is this... How long does it usually take to get the letter back from USCIS saying they have received her I-751? From what I read elsewhere, she would need this letter, along with her current greencard as proof that she is still legal. Would that be sufficient for travel out of the country? She doesn't want to, or more precisely CAN'T, wait for another six months to a year to get approval.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Charles

For those monitoring this forum, this may be noted elsewhere, but we just received written notice from immigration that Lorena and the boys need to apply for removal of conditions. This is certainly different than I expected as all info indicates that USCIS never sends out such a notice.

Congratulations! I hope this does not take very long for you and your family. Leidys and I have our AOS meeting on Monday morning, and we're hoping everything goes well.

Okay... I send off our ROC packet this morning. I know that Lorena will have the ability to travel after we receive the NOA acknowledging they got the packet. Question is, if she is in Colombia at the time I receive the letter for the biometrics appointment, can the biometrics be postponed until she gets back? She is still desperately homesick but we don't want to screw up the process since we've made it this far.

I've done some searching on-line and here on visajourney, and have found nothing difinitive on this. Any ideas or insights?

Charles when you recieve the bio letter you can sen dit back with a note stating to please chang ethe date. When is lorena leaving? you may be able to do an early bio if the letter comes before she leaves. Yes USCIS has started to send reminder letters to a lot of people for ROC. We recieved 3 :D

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

Final note on our "journey". Lorena and the boys went to Colombia for a funeral. When they returned, we recieved notice that their AOS for the full ten years had been approved. About a week later, Lorena informed me that our marriage was over and she was moving out. I received the divorce papers about a week after that.

None of this has anything to do with Colombia or Colombians (at least I don't think so). It does have to do with the stresses that come with adjustment to a new culture (hers to mine and mine to hers) and the complications of adding children into the mix. None of this is for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of time, love, commitment, patience, commitment, work, and commitment. And then more work and commitment. Best of luck to all!!
