Interview got scheduled, but...what if I rescheduled ?

Got a notification of my interview today. But when I signed in I couldn't see a letter yet. So I am not sure when is my interview scheduled ?

I am afraid if the date of the interview falls on the same days of my international trip end of Feb/early March. If this is the case, what should I do ? Can I reschedule my interview date ? How far it takes approximately for rescheduling ?

The letter usually shows up within 24 hours in your online USCIS account. Interviews are usually about 5 weeks out so you are looking at end of February.

Regarding rescheduling, I guess it depends on how critical it is to you that you become a citizen ASAP. If there is no rush, you could reschedule. But if time is of the essence, you are taking a risk with rescheduling as who knows how long it takes to get another appointment - probably depends on the practices of your particular field office.

CITIZENSHIP TIMELINE

4/2019: Submitted N400

5/2019: Biometrics (3 weeks)

2/2020: Interview (10 months)

3/2020: Oath & naturalization (11 months)

6/2020: Passport received (3 months)

Officially a U.S. Citizen!

Thanks for your reply.

You know I would like to be a citizen asap, meanwhile I would like to do our international trip with my family.  Tickets are booked and non refundable. I am really between a rock and hard place here.  Do you think rescheduling can be done over the phone?  My filing office is in Seattle.  And how long oath ceremony is usually scheduled after the interview?  Thanks :)

From what I understand after just getting off the phone with USCIS Tier 1 support, you can call and reschedule your interview if it is while you will be gone. They can do it over the phone. However, be prepared for delays on your case. They explained you'll basically be put "at the end of the line." So yes, you can reschedule, but it will delay your case.

I've seen threads on the long wait for Seattle. Do you mind sharing when you filed for naturalization?

I've filed Feb 2019. It took exactly a year until my interview in Feb 2020. Did you read more on oath ceremony how long it occurs past the interview or same day in some cases ? What is your data on that ?  Thanks

Thank you for sharing.

The reason I asked was due to ther looking wait times for interviews for Seattle filers....9-14 mths.

It would majorly suck if you rescheduled and were put at the back of the line of those waiting long like you were :(

I suggest speaking to USCIS and finding out an estimated time to wait if your interview is going to be around the dates  of travel and you decide to reschedule.
