Does Ecuador recognize dual citizenship? I've searched and found both yes and no answers so I'm just confused. I'd love to know for my husband (Ecua citizen looking at naturalization) and newborn son (born in US).

And here's the one that says you can... So...still not sure. This one talks about a change to the constitution from 1998, so maybe the other one is just older information?

My husband got his US citizenship a few years ago and has since let his Ecuadorian passport expire. He enters and leaves Ecuador with his US passport and Cedula with no problems. Our 4 year old son is also a dual citizen after a trip to the consulate in Chicago. Unless you are actually married in Ecuador or have your marriage certificate verified by the Consulate, you will be considered not married. In the case of your son, follow any information for couples who are not married.
