hi,

I've been reading a lot of the posts and they've helped me a lot with my doubts about applying for the k1. There's not a lot of misinformation around, and this is the most complete website that i could found and the forum really helps. Plus, most people here are nice ..that makes the whole process easier.

So, now to my questions...

I'm having doubts about my documents showing that we met on the last two years.. i have my passport with the stamp from when i entered the US last year, pictures at the restaurant that we met (which complements the letter explaining that we met there) but I cant think of anything else. I have letters, emails, phone bills, and I know someone just asked if we should send all this stuff on this stage of the process, but my question is: it could be a good idea to send all this stuff since i may not have enough proof the we met on the last two years?

And about the letters, explaining how we met and the one certifying an intent to marry within 90 days of entering the US, should i write it by hand? i know that's silly but i read somewhere that you should do it that way and I'm not sure.

thanks for the attention, and sorry about the confusion and the stupid questions!

Pictures of the two of you together are really good. Also, if you're really worried about it, you could get someone (preferably a USC) who knows both of you to write and sign a statement that he/she knows of your relationship and has witnessed you two together.

I think it's always good to send in proof of an ongoing relationship. Especially letters or emails that talk about the times you shared together in person. Or, plans. I included an email that I had sent to my fiance that talked about what time my flight was supposed to get in, and when he should be at the airport to pick me up.

As for the letter of intent, I basically just edited the example given in the guides and printed out a copy for me and an alternate copy for my fiance. Hopefully that works! I'm still waiting for my NOA2... I don't think it matters whether you type or handwrite, but you must sign it!

Bryan sent like 7 pictures, and some emails, letters (like 2) and that was it.

Not too much, but enough to prove that we met. Then to the interview in RJ he was with me and they didnt ask for any proof of relationship, they just asked Bryan how long he was in Brasil and he said "living here for 6 months" but they also didnt ask for any proofs!

Both letters, mine and his, were written by hand...

Your evidence is a bit skimpy but it is enough. You probably have some kind of receipt for your travel to the US and boarding passes but even so, enough. Your relationship proof documentation won't really help you prove you met in the last two years but a little bit won't hurt.

It doesn't really matter whether you type or write the letter of intent as long as you sign it.

Pictures, emails, letters, phone bills etc. are considered only as secondary evidence by USCIS. They are good items to send but try to gather more primary evidence such as airline ticket stubs, e-ticket receipts, spending receipts from when you were together, bank statements etc. I got an RFE requesting more evidence of meeting and I sent in passport stamps, pictures of us together and emails etc. the firt time (it was seriously unreasonable).

Submit evidence of meeting the meneficiary in person within the two-year period preceding the filing of the petiition. The primary evidence may include airline ticket stubs and receipts (that indicate month, day, and year), copies of passport pages taht show the identification page and admission stamps, military order(s), letter from Commanding Officer, or any evidence that will help the USCIS to determine that the petitioner has met the beneficiary within the two years. The secondary evidence may be film dated photographs of the petitioner and the beneficiary together. The following DOES NOT constitue evidence of meeting: disc, videos, emails, letters, phone bills, and greeting cards.

That's a direct quote from common language used in USCIS requests for additional evidence. It would be smart to read it and follow it.

Your passport stamp is your best evidence. It is primary evidence and it is what USCIS most wants to see. Photos are secondary evidence, and on their own will NOT support your application. A passport stamp and some photos sound adequate. If you have extra receipts (or if your other half does, and use those passport stamps too if there are any), you can include them.

Quantity will not overcome quality when it comes to evidence proving that you've been in the same place at the same time within the last two years. Written statements from people will not prove it either - they won't really help anything at all.

As for the letter of intent - check out the example forms here on VJ. The letters need only be VERY SHORT AND TO THE POINT. Those one or two sentences in the examples are all you need. I thought something more involved was required until I found examples like these here (and elsewhere on the net since i mailed off my packet before I found VJ itself).

Sometimes in this process we do more harm than good by overthinking things.

As far as the intent to marry (and explanation of how we met), we typed them and signed at the bottom just to make sure they were perfectly legible.

As was advised back when I applied, I had hard evidence of our meetings, in boarding passes, passport stamps, etc. I did send in photos proving our ongoing relationship, since it was said to help build the case, and 'cus it seemed to help down the road in the interview as well, since by the time you get to talk to the interviewer, he/she already has that evidence, and can make things easier.

cellarlily,

Itineraries are very poor evidence, if any good at all. One needs evidence that they took the trip they booked.

I think most online booking websites have itineraries that list the purchase history if you indeed booked the flight. I know Expedia does, and I've used Travelocity and printed the itinerary for business purposes. Combined with the passport stamp that has the same dates as the itinerary, it's fairly good evidence that you went to the country on that specific date. Of course a boarding pass with the date of travel is better, but if those have been lost, this is better than sending nothing.

You're right, though. Just printing off any old itinerary itself isn't going to be proof that you travelled to the country. You have to show that you actually purchased the trip and match it with your passport stamp to show that you went.

Checked luggage tags also work good for evidence of actual travel along with itinerary.
