Has anyone tried a Writ a Mandamus and been successful?  How long after AP did you have your lawyer submit a Writ a Mandamus?

This is a very good question. For years we (at least I have) asked people who came here looking to possibly start a WOM case to follow and provide us with updates. So far I have not seen any updates. I don't know if it is because of the sticker shock of the overall cost of the process or they realize that a WOM does not mean their case will be approved. But WOM get asked a lot because people get tired of waiting. But I have not seen any that has gone through it and reported back.

To clarify, a writ of mandamus does not approves a person's case. It only forces a decision based on the evidence immigration has. So if immigration still does not have all the evidence to make a decision at the time (for example, a background check from their country is what is holding up the case), then they have to deny the case. With cost of WoM quoted from $5k to $7k or more, you can see why the non-guarantee of approval can cause people to take pause on moving forward with it.

I am very curious to.  It gets very depressing checking your status for months on end with no change.  Then when you contact the embassy you get the same generic answer.    I am debating on starting a WOM case after we hit 14 months in AP.
